Tami, Herb’s and my daughter, created this beaded Orca for a friend of hers who had and was still going through some very tough times. She requested an Orca.
“This was one of my more difficult pieces”, Tami said, “and the first time for some of these new techniques.”
“The challenging thing was, every stitch was a prayer. As it turned out, I was working on this piece during some of the traumatic events of my friend.”
“The new techniques included coloring the thread for transparent and translucent beads with a crayon. This made a 3 dimensional effect for the water, the ocean, and drops and splashes of water, by layering and tacking the beads over a base layer of beads.”

I am referencing the book, “Medicine Cards – The Discovery Of Power Through The Ways Of Animals” by Jamie Sams and David Carson, which describes 44 totem animals. This book is set up with the 44 totem animals plus 6 blank cards which you can make into totem animals that you feel help you and are not included in this deck.
I am sharing information from pages 201, 202 and 203 of their book:
The whale is the record keeper. It is like a library and carries the history of Mother Earth. The whale is believed to have come here by the Ancients from the Star Sirius. It is classified as a mammal because it breathes air. It is believed that whales lived on the land millions of years ago and moved into the ocean during the earth shift of Lemuria. The petroglyphs that have been found are believed to be from the Motherland Mu which is the earth change that brought the red race to North America from beyond the great waters of the West. Cetations, whales and dolphins, are considered to be extremely intelligent animals and are record keepers of North America (Turtle Island) of the huge shift of land masses involving the Motherland Mu.
Whale medicine people are coded in their DNA to understand sound frequencies that can bring up records in the memory of this ancient knowledge. They are usually clairaudient, being able to hear very low and very high frequencies. Whale medicine people are usually also psychically developed and telepathic. Often they are not awakened to their gifts until it is time to reveal the stored records. Many whale medicine people are able to tap into the universal mind of the Great Spirit and have no idea how or why they know what they know. Only later when whale medicine people receive confirmation of their knowledge do they begin to understand how they know and why they receive this information.
Whale medicine teaches us to use the sounds and frequencies that balance our emotional bodies and heal our physical forms. We recall why the shaman’s drum brings healing and peace that aligns us with the Whale’s message. The drum is a universal heartbeat and aligns all beings heart to heart. Before humans began speech their primal language was hand signs and most tribes were silent most of the time. The language that was understood was the sounds of Great Spirit’s other creatures, the animals.
“If you pull the Whale card, you are being asked to tap into these records and to allow yourself to be sung to by those who have the original language. We are the only creatures who do not have our own unique cry or call. Find yours. Allow your voice to use this sound to release tension or emotion. Whale signals a time of finding your origins, of seeing your overall destiny as coded in your DNA, and of finding the sounds that will release those records. You many never be the same again.
After all, you are the melody of the universe, and the harmony is a song of the other creatures. In using your voice to open your memory, you are expressing your uniqueness and your personal sound. As you open to this uniqueness, the animals that are your 9 totems may then send their sounds or calls to you or through you. This will open up your personal records so that you may further explore your soul’s history and commune with Whale, who carries the history of us all.”
Why are whales mammals and not fish? What are the characteristics of mammals?
